Laugh

Hey! Squirrels gotta eat too!

We have a constant battle. The squirrels come and destroy your bird feeder. My kids used to love to feed the squirrels in Central Park. That was a different time and a different lifetime ago…

Nowadays I am content to photograph the birds – cardinal and woodpecker – who come to eat. Shy! Everyone is. No one sticks around to let me poke a camera in their face. I get my shots from behind the window. I am too lazy to leave a big telephoto lens setup on a tripod. So, I use a point and shoot. Ha! The Sony RX100 has a great telephoto. Good detail. I am able to work around the window glass degradation of my picture. It works for me.

Stopped

I love this window. It is roadside along US 1 driving north. I memorized the landmark just before this stop. And we stopped. Colleen shot. She got a good one. She did good. She’s a photographer and didn’t even know it. Meanwhile, I got the shot for my collection. Does it matter?… that she shot the picture. No! We are pretty much one. She got her experience shooting bridges as we drive. Otherwise, I would shoot the bridge and she wanted my hands on the steering wheel. Imagine that?!

Cloudy

Why? There always seem to be obstructions or telephone lines in the way of my promising cloud pictures. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities elsewhere. And on occasion there is a sunrise or sunset to assist. In this instance the early morning sunrise picture was modified by blurring from the rain on my window. The effect is sometimes sought via a lens filter. In this case my window provided the filter blur for free.

There’s nothing special in the technique or advice. Carry a camera. Use it. And do not hesitate to shoot thru glass be it car or home. I guess there is not much to be said for telephone lines and traffic. I would prefer to always avoid a traffic jam. Ha ha. I have a camera on my desk. I usually have one on the dashboard of the car.
