Hurricane Irene

Technical Nikon D90, 1/400 sec, f5.1, ISO 200, focal length 80mm

Kevin and Susan live in Marblehead, MA, in line with the path of Hurricane Irene. Kevin took Susan out on this stormy day and this is what Susan brought home. It captures the hurricane perfectly. The waves and the flag blowing balance and convey the raw elements in play here. Cropping put the flag, a little too much in the upper corner of the image. The image is slightly desaturated in keeping with the storm. I had seen this photo before and Susan had expressed that it could have been better. Had I been there, I might have experimented with composition and the rule of thirds. When Susan kindly sent it again, I was first struck by her excellent capture of Mother Nature in action. Next time be careful and make sure that Kevin doesn’t let you out into the teeth of a hurricane again.
